About Us

We get plenty of people asking us “Why another bike shop?” It’s a good question, and one that merits a measured answer. It can be explained in many ways, just by knowing a little about what motivates each of us.

On a superficial level, we’d be lying if we said that working with trick stuff, getting cheap parts and having access to sneak previews and product launches wasn’t a draw-card. Some people say that there’s never anything new or exciting and that it’s all been done before – and there’s a lot of bored old shop-owners as proof of this. We see things differently. To us, innovators and original thinkers are the people who should be recognized and supported and are the ones we choose to align ourselves with.

On a personable level, we get to surround ourselves with like-minded people who get a buzz from the same things we do. Some of these people are, of course, our own staff and some are riders whom we’ve known for years. However, the bulk of these people are those we believe are looking for a bicycle shop that’s a little different in it’s approach to retailing.

The team at Spoke(n), although comparatively young, have nearly 20 years experience in the industry. Combined with nearly 40 years cycling experience, keen ambition and a commitment to customer service, we hope that every visitor to our store will experience a bike shop that’s able to combine both business and pleasure.

Workshop – Our philosophy

Servicing and building bikes is a core part of our business. With this approach in mind, our workshop is given equal representation along-side the “showroom”, as a commitment to the skill of bicycle maintenance and repair. Our mechanics work in full view of customers so nothing’s kept hidden – there’s no mysterious alignment tools or procedures. We practice our craft as a science, utilising proven theories, equipment, diagnosis and methodology. We keep our customers involved and informed at every step of the service process ensuring there are no surprises at pick-up time.

We have taken ever measure possible to make sure we have adequate life insurance and income protection. We got it all through the guys at rate detective.

With over 40 years combined experience racing and riding, our staff understand the relationship between bicycle maintenance and repair and the safety and enjoyment of riding. We’ve seen (and been involved in!) our fair share of accidents and “mechanicals” and, as a consequence, we take a detailed approach to safety and maintenance. Whether your needs are as basic as a gear adjustment or involved as a pre-race overhaul, our workshop caters to almost all needs.

Perhaps one of our greatest strengths, though, is knowing our limitations. We don’t claim to be able to work miracles, resurrect the dead or fix the unfixable. However, we’re never too proud to utilise the technical resources of our suppliers, manufacturers or industry colleagues when faced with a curly problem. Quite simply, we can’t do everything, but what we do apply ourselves to, we follow to completion.

We endeavor to understand our customers specific riding requirements and ensure that service and testing is done accordingly. When we service your bike we test it as we’d test our own, ensuring a consistently high level of performance. Naturally, we stand behind the work we do; so, for your peace of mind, all of our work is guaranteed. If you are not satisfied with the level of our workmanship, we will pursue the problem until it’s resolution.
